My Story

Sheryl TurgeonAs an Integrative Health Coach for Highly Sensitive Women, I have been through everything I just talked about. I was working 50-60 hour weeks at a high pressure job as CEO for a community health center. I had put on an extra 40 pounds during the 14 years I was in that role. I ate subs, pizza, fried chicken and other take-out foods because I didn’t have time to cook—or so I thought.

I was exhausted daily and by Friday night, had no energy left for anyone. I was in my 40s and, ironically, was battling both wrinkles and acne at the same time. Everything felt tight on me, because I was bloated most of the time. I had frequent hot flashes and was on an anti-depressant to try and keep my moods steady. I had done the dieting route, but found that even when I was strict about it, weight was difficult to lose.

When you finally get fed up with the weight, skin, and stomach issues (oh, and frequent headaches), the solution often appears. It did for me when I read about the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. I’d always been interested in nutrition (I just didn’t do a whole lot about it, yet). So, I enrolled in the course and traveled from Providence to New York once a month on weekends to learn what I could about eating a healthy, whole foods diet.

For me, the first step was learning about my food sensitivities. When I eliminated wheat and dairy, the pounds started dropping off. I began to add in the whole, fresh, organic foods and squeeze out the fast, take-out stuff. Gradually, my skin cleared up, the weight came off and other health issues disappeared.

By the way, I left that crazy corporate job and started my own successful business coaching other women to create a healthy body and nurturing lifestyle. “How much time is required?” It does take extra effort before starting the Cleanse to shop and prepare the broth. Once that is done, the recipes are quick and easy to prepare. You will eat differently for a few days and may want to schedule your social life around the Cleanse. If you can’t do that, you will still be able to eat a meal out here or there as long as you choose carefully.

“Will I be hungry?” This is not a diet or a super-restrictive Cleanse. If you get hungry, eat. Just be sure you are eating from the extensive list of foods available to you.

Sometimes people think they are hungry when they are just thirsty. I always suggest you drink a glass of water first, and then see if you really want something to eat. If you usually eat out of emotional reasons, this will be a great way to get in touch with your feelings and start to discover what you really want.

couple“What if my huband/family won’t eat this way with me?” You are doing this for you. I have found that if you act as a leader and practice your own powerful self care, others will observe you and might even want to join you. In any case, let them know what you are planning ahead of time and that you would like their support.

You may want to prepare something for them before you start the Cleanse, so it is easy to pull it out of the freezer. If they are old enough, they can take care of themselves for the week and give you a well-deserved break!

“How can I do this when my family is eating my favorite foods?” You will have plenty of support between your New Cravings Free Revitalizing Cleanse Facebook Community and me. If you have a friend who would like to join you, please go ahead and invite her—you will both enjoy a reduced fee for signing up together and you’ll have a partner to help you.

Spring cleanse“I don’t cook. Can I do this?” You will need to prepare some foods. The main item you will need to cook is the broth. Two recipes are supplied with easy-to-follow instructions. Otherwise, a blender, chopping block and knife are all you will need. If you wish to cook some fish or chicken you are welcome to do that as well. Neighbors in my last class shared smoothies every morning, since one had been enjoying them for years.

“How long is the prep time?” Again, the longest preparation is for the broth, and that is mostly due to chopping vegetables. Otherwise, the recipes are designed to be quick and easy—no more than 15 minutes.

“I have a social event during the Cleanse. Can I still participate?” If you are going to a wedding or other large event where you want to enjoy yourself, I would wait to do the Cleanse; however, you may still register and receive the materials to proceed when you are ready. If it is simply a meal out, you can manage to stay on the Cleanse by choosing carefully.

“How strict do I have to be?” It is important to do the New Cravings Free Revitalizing Cleanse as it was laid out if you want results. It’s all about your individual body’s needs. You may be affected by something in your diet that you eat frequently and by choosing to include that during the Cleanse, you would continue to have the same reaction and won’t see the results you want.
